Summer’s right around the corner (yet it seems like it’s been here for a while with the 100° weather we’ve been having recently.) And though, I’m always trying to keep cool in the shade, I’m excited to go out and have some fun in the sun too. But post-grad life means no longer having a three-month summer vacation so I’m constrained to mini vacations and weekend getaways. Whatever, I’ll take what I can get. My travel bug has been itching to go somewhere!
I’ll be working full time soon and I won’t be able to vacation for a while, so I decided to start my summer early this year.
Two weekends ago, I went to the Chipotle Cultivate Festival at Golden Gate Park, SF with some friends to see Mayer Hawthorne perform. It was a really long day. I spent the morning catching up with a friend I haven’t seen in almost 4 years. Then, I met up with the rest of my friends at BART and headed into the city. After BART, we had to take the MUNI to Golden Gate Park, but it was ridiculously crowded with other festival-goers. Only myself and a couple other friends made it onto the bus, and we had to stand the entire hour or so until we reached the stop by the park. It literally took like 3 hours to get there on public transportation, story of my life…
Ash and I being super lady-like waiting for Mayer Hawthorne.
It was freezing cold and we were mostly dressed for a hot day. We should have known better though, Golden Gate is always always always cold. Anyway, we’re all freezing and tired from bus ride but we still had to hike down this make-shift trail which led down to the grassy area where the festival was being held. It was pretty funny despite everyone’s depressed mood. But as Alex would say, “we like to have fun here.”
Cheers to finally getting in & to the start of summer!
When we finally reached the grassy area, there was a long line (of course) to get inside the festival. We waited and froze our asses off until we finally got in. Our first order of business: get some beer and alcohol blanket it up. By the way, this probably wasn’t the best way to combat the cold because you actually lose more heat to your surroundings BUT we were so cold and desperate that it just felt absolutely necessary. Plus, who doesn’t want to relax with a beer after spending an eternity standing in crowded buses and lines? Not us buddy, not us.
Mayer Hawthorne & band in nautical themed outfits, cute.
We hadn’t eaten before drinking so I got buzzed pretty quickly. Yay! Haha, but I definitely get the “drunkies” so I we bought some tacos and fajitas. Yum. After eating, we were finally able to meet up with everyone inside the festival and go watch Mayer Hawthorne. It ended up being a pretty good day despite all the complications and cold weather.
